As countries look for practical solutions to economic and social challenges, the BRICS+ Youth Innovation Summit 2026 is emerging as a platform that supports youth-led businesses with the networks and resources needed to grow and compete globally. The success of this year’s summit highlights how collaboration, innovation and targeted support can unlock real opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
Hosted by the South African BRICS Youth Association in partnership with the Tshwane University of Technology and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, the two-day event took place on 9 and 10 April 2026. It brought together young innovators, industry experts, investors and policymakers under the theme of sustainable development and global prosperity.
The summit focused on three key areas that are central to future economic growth: sustainable development and green innovation, artificial intelligence and digitisation, and agri-tech solutions for food security. Across these sectors, participants presented practical ideas designed to solve real challenges while building scalable businesses.
This year’s winners reflected both the diversity and strength of youth innovation. Shakti Balasubramanian Yadav was named overall winner in sustainable development and green innovation, recognising work that contributes to environmental sustainability. In artificial intelligence and digitisation, Litsitso Morobi, Founder and CEO of NexaVTS, took the top award, highlighting the growing importance of digital solutions in shaping modern economies.
In the agri-tech category, Tshepiso Malema secured first place for Flockify, an innovation developed by LLT Technologies Group. The platform supports small and medium-scale poultry farmers through the use of smart cameras, sensors and AI-driven analytics. By monitoring flock health, tracking compliance and providing actionable insights, Flockify helps farmers improve productivity, reduce losses and build more sustainable operations. The solution is designed to work with farmers, incubators, agri-cooperatives and investors, with a clear focus on enabling smarter and more profitable farming.
Beyond the awards, the summit created a strong environment for growth and collaboration. Participants engaged in project presentations, workshops, mentorship sessions and networking activities, with selected entrepreneurs pitching their ideas to panels of industry experts and investors.
According to SABYA Executive Chairman Raymond Matlala, the summit reflects the growing role of young people in addressing global challenges and provides a platform where ideas can be strengthened through collaboration and exposure. Patrick Ebewo also emphasised the importance of access to mentorship, funding and global networks in building inclusive and sustainable economies.
Top-performing participants will continue to receive support through the SABYA Young Entrepreneurs Network, including access to international platforms such as the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026. These opportunities are expected to open new pathways for partnerships, investment and market expansion.
The BRICS+ Youth Innovation Summit 2026 stands out not only as a celebration of its winners, but as a clear demonstration of what is possible when young innovators are given the right support. By connecting ideas to opportunity, the initiative is helping to build stronger businesses and contributing to long-term economic development across the Global South.
