Women in DeFi (WiD) and Busha have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at increasing the participation of women in Africa’s growing Web3 ecosystem through education, mentorship and access to resources.
The initiative comes at a time when interest in blockchain, digital assets and decentralised finance (DeFi) continues to grow across the continent. However, many women remain on the sidelines because they lack access to training, technology and communities that can help them enter the space.
According to Sarah Idahosa, Founder of Women in DeFi, the partnership is designed to close those gaps and create more opportunities for women.
“Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not always evenly distributed. Through this partnership with Busha, we are intentionally closing that gap,” she said.
She added that when women have access to knowledge, tools, mentorship and community support, they can create “extraordinary outcomes.”
Building Skills and Creating Access
The partnership will focus on several programmes designed to help women gain practical knowledge and build careers in Web3.
One of the key initiatives is the expansion of Women in DeFi’s Intro to Web3 Squads. The programme is designed for beginners and will provide training on blockchain technology, digital assets, DeFi and the broader Web3 ecosystem.
By simplifying complex concepts and helping participants understand available opportunities, the programme aims to turn interest in Web3 into practical skills and meaningful participation.
The collaboration also builds on previous efforts that have already made an impact. Busha recently sponsored and donated five laptops to women in the Women in DeFi community, helping to remove one of the biggest barriers to digital learning and career development.
The organisations say the laptop programme was more than a donation. It was an investment in women looking to develop skills and build careers in technology and Web3.
Supporting Financial Inclusion and Future Leaders
The partnership will also expand the Women in DeFi Goes to School initiative, which introduces students and young women to opportunities in the digital economy through workshops, awareness campaigns and educational sessions.
The goal is to inspire the next generation of founders, innovators, marketers, community managers and leaders in the Web3 sector.
Beyond education, the partnership is also promoting financial inclusion through the “Build Her Bag” Saving Challenge. The community initiative encourages women to develop healthy saving habits using digital finance tools created by Busha while earning yields on their savings.
Another major development is the launch of the Women in DeFi Inner Circle, a dedicated community that will provide access to mentorship, networking opportunities, scholarships, grants, internships, fellowships and career opportunities.
Idahosa said the collaboration is ultimately about “education, empowerment, economic inclusion, and ensuring that more women can participate meaningfully in shaping the future of Web3.”
