Waspito Launches AI Health Assistant on WhatsApp to Expand Healthcare Access

Cameroon-based digital health platform Waspito has launched AHIM (African Health Intelligent Model), a new artificial intelligence-powered health assistant available directly on WhatsApp, a move that could significantly improve access to healthcare services across Africa and beyond.

The new service allows users to consult doctors, order laboratory tests, purchase health plans and receive health information through simple conversations on WhatsApp. Available in both English and French, AHIM operates around the clock and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

The launch is another step in Waspito’s mission to make healthcare more accessible and inclusive by bringing medical services onto one of the world’s most widely used messaging platforms.

“Our mission has always been to make healthcare more accessible,” said Jean LOBE LOBE, Chief Executive Officer of Waspito. “With AHIM, we are taking a significant step forward by bringing our healthcare ecosystem directly into WhatsApp, an application already used by millions of people every day.”

Simplifying Access to Healthcare

By integrating healthcare services into WhatsApp, Waspito is reducing barriers that often prevent people from receiving medical support. Through AHIM, users can instantly access consultation links, submit prescriptions and medical documents, receive health guidance and connect with licensed healthcare professionals.

The company believes that healthcare services should be easy to reach, especially in regions where access to medical facilities can be difficult.

“We believe accessing healthcare should be as simple as sending a message,” LOBE LOBE said.

AHIM is powered by generative artificial intelligence and acts as a smart assistant that guides users through available healthcare services. However, Waspito emphasised that the platform does not replace medical professionals. Diagnoses, consultations and treatment decisions remain the responsibility of qualified doctors within its network.

Building a Stronger Digital Health Ecosystem

Founded in 2020, Waspito has grown into one of Africa’s leading digital health platforms. The company has more than one million users, has served over 250,000 patients and works with a network of more than 2,000 licensed doctors. It currently operates in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire while also providing telemedicine services internationally.

The company has also gained recognition for its innovation, including winning first prize at VivaTech’s AfriTech competition.

Access to AHIM is free, with users paying only for the healthcare services they choose. General practitioner consultations start at 3,000 FCFA while specialist consultations begin at 6,000 FCFA. Some services may also be covered through participating insurance plans and promotional offers.

As digital health adoption grows across Africa, Waspito’s latest innovation could help bring healthcare services closer to millions of people by turning an everyday messaging app into a gateway to medical care.
