Eswatini’s efforts to strengthen healthcare through technology have received international recognition after local startup Vytal Bridge won the Startup World Cup Eswatini 2026. The victory gives the maternal health startup an opportunity to compete for a US$1 million investment prize in Silicon Valley while showcasing how locally developed digital solutions can improve healthcare access and position Eswatini’s innovation sector on the global stage.
Vytal Bridge emerged as the overall winner from 10 finalists during the Startup World Cup Eswatini Regional Finals held at the University of Eswatini Sports Emporium in Matsapha. The competition attracted 161 applications from across the country before being narrowed down to the final 10 startups.
The startup earned top honours with its mobile application designed to improve maternal and child healthcare by monitoring key health indicators throughout pregnancy. The platform enables expectant mothers to receive timely support while contributing to efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality, demonstrating how technology can help address critical healthcare challenges.
Chief Executive Officer Xoliswa Mbingo, who recently graduated with a degree in Computer Science and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Technology at Botho University, will now lead the company to the Startup World Cup Grand Final in Silicon Valley this November. Entrepreneurs from more than 100 countries will compete for a US$1 million investment prize offered by Pegasus Tech Ventures.

Mbingo described the victory as an important milestone for both the company and Eswatini’s growing innovation ecosystem, saying it recognises years of work to develop a solution that responds to a real need.
“This recognition validates the work we have put into developing a solution that addresses one of the most important healthcare challenges facing our communities,” she said.
She said the team is determined to compete at the highest level when it represents Eswatini on the global stage.
“We are not travelling there simply to participate, we are going there to compete. We believe in our solution, we believe in our team and we believe we have what it takes to bring the global title home. We will proudly represent Eswatini and demonstrate that world-class innovation can emerge from our country,” Mbingo said.
The company’s success reflects the growing role of technology entrepreneurs in developing practical solutions to healthcare challenges while creating businesses capable of attracting international investment. It also highlights the potential for locally developed innovations to improve lives beyond Eswatini’s borders.
Startup Ecosystem Continues to Grow
The competition also highlighted the breadth of innovation emerging from Eswatini, with finalists presenting solutions across agriculture, manufacturing, fintech, healthcare, education, cybersecurity, creative industries and digital technologies.
Announcing the winner, Princess Sakhizwe said the competition demonstrated that Eswatini has the talent and determination to compete internationally.
“I reject the story that innovation of global consequence happens somewhere else,” she said, adding that Eswatini possesses the creativity, resilience and innovation needed to stand alongside the world’s best.
She encouraged entrepreneurs to continue building businesses that solve real-world problems and urged investors to see startups as partners in national development.
“As one of you prepares to represent our Kingdom on the global stage, know that you carry not only your own ambition, but also the hopes of a nation that believes in your potential,” she said.
Representing Minister of Information, Communications and Technology Savannah Maziya, Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development Sikhumbuzo Dlamini said government views startups as key drivers of economic transformation, job creation and digital innovation.
He said the Startup World Cup supports the objectives of the Eswatini Digitalisation Strategy 2024 to 2028, which aims to expand broadband connectivity, strengthen digital identity and cybersecurity infrastructure and create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs.
“Today’s finalists demonstrate that Eswatini possesses the talent, creativity and determination needed to compete globally,” Dlamini said.
As Vytal Bridge prepares for Silicon Valley, its success represents more than a place in an international competition.
