Spiro has partnered with Yadea to expand affordable and sustainable electric transport across Africa. The partnership will combine Yadea’s manufacturing and research capabilities with Spiro’s operational network and battery-swapping infrastructure across seven African countries.

The companies aim to develop a commercially sustainable electric vehicle framework that can serve millions of commercial fleet operators, delivery businesses, logistics providers and daily commuters in some of Africa’s fastest-growing mobility markets.

The partnership is expected to improve access to electric two-wheelers while supporting the wider shift away from fuel-powered transport. It also brings together Chinese manufacturing expertise and Spiro’s experience operating in African markets.

“When we launched Spiro, our mission was to lay the energy and mobility foundation for Africa’s green transition. Our strategic partnership with Yadea is a major endorsement of our execution to date and opens fantastic opportunities to jointly pioneer the next era of electric mobility in emerging markets”, stated Gagan Gupta, Founder of Spiro and Chairman of Equitane.

Electric Vehicles Built for African Markets

Under the agreement, Yadea will supply electric two-wheelers and other electric vehicle products for Spiro’s growing markets. Spiro will integrate the vehicles into its battery-swapping and energy infrastructure.

The companies will also work together to develop customised two-wheeler platforms designed for African road conditions and commercial use. This could help make electric motorcycles more practical for businesses and riders who depend on two-wheelers for daily work and transport.

Anant Badjatya, CEO of Spiro, said the partnership will help the company respond to rising demand for electric mobility across the continent.

“Africa’s shift to electric mobility is accelerating and this partnership helps us meet that demand at scale. By bringing together Yadea’s manufacturing strength with Spiro’s electric mobility ecosystem and operating experience across Africa, we are compressing the timeline to clean transport, helping thousands more riders switch to affordable EVs faster and multiplying our climate impact across the continent,” Badjatya said.

The partnership also strengthens the China-Africa business relationship. Yadea brings large-scale manufacturing, technology and research capabilities, while Spiro contributes its battery-swapping network and knowledge of local market needs.

Wang Jiazhong, Senior Vice President of Yadea Technology Group, said Africa represents an important opportunity for zero-emission transport.

“Africa represents a massive frontier for zero-emission transport. Our mission to reduce carbon emissions has reached a powerful milestone through this partnership with Spiro. Together, we are combining global innovation with local infrastructure to deliver scalable and sustainable mobility solutions that serve millions of riders and transform Africa’s urban transit,” Jiazhong stated.

Founded in China, Yadea has sold more than 100 million electric two-wheelers across more than 100 countries. The company operates 10 exclusive production facilities globally and has more than 2,000 patents in electric vehicle technology.

The partnership comes as Spiro enters its next phase of expansion after raising US$270 million in its latest funding round. The round included investment from NewTrails Capital, a Chinese fund.

Spiro is building an integrated electric mobility system that combines electric motorcycles with battery-swapping stations. The system allows riders to replace depleted batteries with fully charged ones within minutes, helping reduce downtime for commercial and everyday users.
