Netagrow Technologies’ recent recognition for Engineering Innovation in AI for Sustainable Development by the Engineering Institution of Zambia marks an important step forward for technology-driven agriculture in Africa. The award highlights how practical, farmer-focused innovation can improve productivity, strengthen food systems and support sustainable farming across the continent.

“We’ve been recognised for Engineering Innovation in AI for Sustainable Development… a reflection of our commitment to building practical, farmer-first AI solutions,” the company said, pointing to its focus on solving real challenges faced by farmers.

Netagrow, an award-winning startup in the agriculture sector, has developed an all-in-one platform that supports farmers throughout the entire farming cycle. By combining Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things technologies, the company enables farmers to make better decisions, improve efficiency and increase profitability. Its mission is clear: to empower every African farmer with intelligent and accessible technology that responds to real agricultural needs, from soil management to market access.

At the core of the platform is a set of tools designed to simplify farm operations. Farmers can manage crops, livestock and daily activities in one place, while affordable smart sensors provide real-time data on soil moisture, temperature, humidity and crop conditions. This data is then processed through AgriVision AI, which offers practical insights such as pest detection, yield forecasts and crop recommendations.

The platform also includes financial tracking features, giving farmers visibility over expenses, income, and profits. Weather intelligence tools provide localized forecasts, helping farmers prepare for changing conditions. In addition, users can connect with certified agricultural experts through the app for professional advice when needed.

Netagrow says its approach is guided by a strong commitment to local-first design and farmer-centric innovation. Every feature is built based on direct feedback from farmers and tailored to African farming conditions. The company also emphasizes accessibility, ensuring that advanced technology remains affordable and easy to use, regardless of farm size or technical knowledge.

“Our mission is to transform African agriculture through intelligent data analytics, AI-powered insights and practical farm management tools,” the company states, adding that its goal is to help farmers “reduce waste and maximize yields.”

Since its founding in 2022 at Copperbelt University in Zambia, Netagrow has grown steadily. The company onboarded its first 500 farmers in 2023, secured support from the Mastercard Foundation in 2024 and has now reached over 3,500 active farmers while building partnerships with organizations including the World Food Programme. In 2026, it plans to expand into four additional African markets and launch the Netagrow Academy to further support farmer education.

Beyond its core platform, Netagrow is also working with agricultural businesses and organizations to deliver data and AI consulting services. These efforts aim to help stakeholders across the agricultural value chain adopt smarter, data-driven approaches.

As African agriculture continues to modernize, initiatives like Netagrow demonstrate how technology can be applied in practical ways to improve outcomes. With its growing reach and continued innovation, the company is positioning itself as a key contributor to a more productive, sustainable and inclusive agricultural sector across the continent.
