MazaoHub, a Tanzanian agri-tech start-up co-founded by Geophrey Tenganamba, is transforming the way smallholder farmers access finance, technology and markets. In partnership with CRDB Bank Foundation, MazaoHub is breaking down barriers that have historically limited farmers’ growth, enabling them to increase productivity, improve incomes and build resilient livelihoods. This collaboration demonstrates how innovation, data and youth-driven entrepreneurship can converge to create real, scalable impact in agriculture.

For many years, Tanzanian farmers have struggled to secure loans because they lacked traditional collateral. MazaoHub addresses this challenge by using data-driven solutions to validate productivity and creditworthiness. Through its network of Farmer Excellence Centers, known locally as Kliniki za Kilimo, spread across 15 regions, MazaoHub collects real-time agronomy data that allows farmers to access financing, quality inputs, precision farming tools and market opportunities. By relying on verified performance rather than conventional collateral, the platform empowers farmers to plan and grow smarter, ultimately transforming their livelihoods.

The partnership between MazaoHub and CRDB Bank Foundation is supported by UNDP Tanzania’s FUNGUO Innovation Programme, funded by the European Union, the Republic of Finland and the British High Commission in Tanzania. FUNGUO is designed to support youth-led innovations through mentorship, capacity building and funding, fostering a vibrant ecosystem where technology, finance, and entrepreneurship intersect. By enabling startups like MazaoHub, FUNGUO nurtures solutions that unlock opportunities for farmers and strengthen Tanzania’s growing agri-tech sector.

MazaoHub leverages technology to deliver practical solutions to farmers. Using IoT devices, the platform gathers climate, soil moisture, crop health, irrigation system and plant condition data across a variety of crops, from specialty to row crops. Artificial intelligence then processes and interprets this data, generating personalized agronomy guidance in a way that is easy for farmers to understand and act upon. This approach equips smallholder farmers with actionable insights to improve yields, optimize resources and mitigate the effects of climate variability.

The CRDB Bank Foundation plays a critical role in supporting MazaoHub’s mission. As the philanthropic arm of one of Tanzania’s largest banks, the foundation focuses on driving socio-economic development and supporting sustainable projects that align with the national development agenda. Its strategy emphasizes collaboration through public, private, philanthropy and partnership models, creating opportunities for innovation to thrive and generate tangible benefits for communities. By backing MazaoHub, CRDB Bank Foundation reinforces its commitment to financial inclusion, youth entrepreneurship and sustainable agricultural development.

Together, MazaoHub, CRDB Bank Foundation and FUNGUO demonstrate how partnerships can address multiple challenges in the agriculture sector. Smallholder farmers gain access to finance, markets and technical guidance, while the broader agri-tech ecosystem is strengthened through innovation, mentorship and data-driven solutions. This holistic approach ensures that the impact extends beyond individual farmers, promoting systemic change in Tanzania’s agricultural landscape.

The collaboration also highlights the role of youth-led initiatives in driving economic transformation. By supporting startups like MazaoHub, FUNGUO enables young innovators to develop solutions that address critical development needs, from improving crop productivity to enhancing climate resilience. This focus on youth entrepreneurship ensures that the next generation of leaders contributes to sustainable growth, job creation and technological advancement in Tanzania.

The partnership’s long-term impact goes beyond increased production or financial inclusion. By combining precision farming tools, real-time data and accessible finance, MazaoHub is helping farmers reduce risks, cut losses and make informed decisions. These improvements strengthen food security, boost incomes and provide a pathway for rural communities to participate more fully in the national economy. It also positions Tanzania as a hub for agri-tech innovation in Africa, attracting attention from investors, development partners and other stakeholders interested in scalable solutions.

As MazaoHub continues to expand its network and reach more farmers, the model sets a precedent for how technology, finance and collaborative support can transform agriculture. With backing from CRDB Bank Foundation and mentorship from FUNGUO, the platform is well positioned to scale its operations, empower thousands of smallholder farmers and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector in Tanzania. This partnership underscores the potential of data-driven, youth-led innovations to create meaningful social and economic impact while advancing the country’s development goals.

In a sector where access to finance, information and technology has long been a limiting factor, MazaoHub’s model shows what is possible when innovation and collaboration intersect. By supporting farmers with the right tools, insights and resources, the initiative is not only improving livelihoods but also laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient and inclusive agricultural sector in Tanzania.
