Mastercard and pan-African digital asset exchange Busha have partnered to make cryptocurrency transfers simpler, safer and more accessible for users in Africa. The partnership will introduce Mastercard Crypto Credential to eligible Busha users in Nigeria, giving them a more straightforward way to send and receive digital assets through verified aliases.
Effective immediately, eligible Busha users in Nigeria can use a unique Crypto Credential alias. This expands the network of verified users and allows them to transact across participating exchanges and wallets within the Crypto Credential ecosystem.
The partnership makes Busha one of the first digital asset exchanges in Africa to enable Mastercard Crypto Credential for its users. It also supports the companies’ wider goal of making digital asset transactions more trusted and accessible.
Making Digital Asset Transfers Simpler
Mastercard Crypto Credential is designed to give users greater confidence that their funds are being sent to a trusted recipient. It connects users to transaction endpoints that have met Mastercard’s verification standards.
The solution also replaces lengthy blockchain addresses with simple, verified aliases that users can easily share when receiving digital assets. For eligible Busha users, their email or phone number can be used to make the process more familiar and convenient.
The technology also checks whether a recipient can receive the specific digital asset on the intended blockchain before a transaction is completed. This helps reduce the risk of failed or misdirected transfers.
“Digital asset transfers should be as intuitive and trusted as other forms of digital payments,” said Gabriel Swanepoel, division president, Africa at Mastercard.
Swanepoel said Crypto Credential gives users and institutions greater confidence when sending funds to verified endpoints. He added that the partnership with Busha means every verified Busha user can be reached simply through their email or phone number.
Eligible Busha users do not need to complete additional setup. Their Crypto Credential is automatically issued as part of their Busha account.
Supporting Africa’s Digital Asset Growth
The aliases can be used across participating exchanges and wallets within the Crypto Credential ecosystem. This means Busha users can transact not only with other Busha users, but also with users on other supported platforms.
Michael Adeyeri, co-founder and CEO of Busha, said the partnership supports the company’s focus on making digital assets more practical, accessible and trusted for everyday users.
He said verified aliases could make transactions simpler and more intuitive while reinforcing the security and compliance standards expected from Busha. Adeyeri also described the partnership as an important step in bringing the capability to Nigeria and supporting the responsible growth of Africa’s digital asset ecosystem.
Digital assets are gaining momentum across Africa for investment, remittances and cross-border commerce. As their use grows, trusted and easy-to-use infrastructure will be important in supporting wider adoption.
Busha operates across Nigeria and Kenya and is one of Nigeria’s first SEC-licensed digital asset platforms. It provides traditional savings, crypto trading, crypto-backed loans and stablecoin-powered business infrastructure.
Through Busha Business, companies, fintechs and developers can access licensed infrastructure for cross-border payments, stablecoin treasury services, merchant payments and API integration. The company focuses on compliance, liquidity and user experience as it works to support responsible innovation in Africa’s digital financial ecosystem.
