South African entrepreneur Keketso Ithabeleng Mokoena, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of KIM Global Capital Group (Pty) Ltd, has announced a strategic expansion of her company’s retail subsidiary, KIM Retail International, into the fashion and beauty sectors.

The new division, which introduces the KIM Clothing Line, marks a significant milestone in the group’s broader plan to build an African-born, globally recognized retail brand.

Keketso said the expansion underscores her company’s “commitment to building a world-class international retail brand that blends style, affordability and luxury for customers across the globe.”

“The goal has always been entrepreneurship, though entrepreneurship is not a bed of roses,” Keketso added, describing the move as part of a long-term vision to strengthen African ownership in global consumer markets.

Diversification Strategy and Brand Vision

KIM Retail International’s expansion comes amid rising investor interest in Africa’s consumer and lifestyle industries, supported by a fast-growing middle class and increased access to e-commerce. The company aims to capitalize on this momentum by diversifying its retail portfolio to include clothing, fashion accessories and beauty products, under a unified brand identity.

The expansion reflects KIM Global Capital Group’s broader investment model, which spans finance, hedge funds and retail innovation. The firm’s investment arm, KIM Capital Fund (Family Office) Hedge Fund, positions the group as both a capital allocator and an operator in high-growth sectors across Africa.

Keketso, who is also an MBA candidate in International Business, said the latest retail move aligns with her group’s ambition to create scalable, export-ready African brands capable of competing in global markets.

Africa’s Growing Fashion Economy

According to data from Euromonitor International, Africa’s fashion and apparel market is projected to exceed US$15 billion by 2030, driven by urbanization, digital retail adoption and consumer demand for locally inspired designs. South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya remain leading markets for apparel, while smaller economies such as Ghana and Rwanda are emerging as production and design hubs.

KIM Retail International’s expansion into beauty and fashion follows a trend among African conglomerates diversifying beyond traditional sectors such as banking and real estate into consumer-driven industries.

“This expansion reflects our commitment to building a world-class international retail brand, blending style, affordability, and luxury for customers across the globe,” Keketso said.

Positioning and Impact

The new KIM Clothing Line and retail offering are expected to operate under a hybrid model combining physical retail presence with digital commerce channels to reach customers across Africa and abroad. The brand will target the mid-to-premium market segment, emphasizing quality, design and accessibility.

Industry experts view KIM Retail International’s move as part of a larger shift in the African retail landscape, where entrepreneurs are leveraging both technology and cultural authenticity to compete with international brands.

“We are thrilled to announce the expansion of KIM RETAIL INTERNATIONAL, a proud subsidiary of KIM Global Capital Group (Pty) Ltd, as we take our brand to the next level!” Keketso stated. “From trendsetting fashion to premium beauty products, our goal is to redefine global retail one collection at a time.”

With KIM Retail International’s entry into the fashion and beauty market, Keketso joins a growing list of African business leaders diversifying into lifestyle sectors once dominated by Western labels.

The company’s long-term strategy includes supply chain localization, youth employment creation, and strategic partnerships with designers and manufacturers across Africa.

As the global fashion industry pivots toward inclusivity and sustainability, KIM Retail International’s African-focused model built on cultural identity and global standards could position it as a competitive player in the international marketplace.
