Innovest Afrika recently launched Cohort 4 of the Innovest Ignite Accelerator, featuring sixteen dynamic South African entrepreneurs from sectors including fintech, healthtech, logistics, AI, consumer goods and renewable energy..

At a time when the continent’s entrepreneurial spirit is being tested and redefined, these founders represent the new face of African enterprise resilient, creative and unstoppable.

A Cohort of Visionaries

This year’s Ignite Accelerator brings together a remarkable lineup:
Busisiwe Mahlare (Rodi Wellness), championing holistic wellbeing; Zama Ngcamu (Mkazi Concepts), advancing women-centered design; Maddy Samakosky (Ashtonqs), reshaping professional services; Londiwe Xulu (Ekamou), driving ethical fashion innovation; Relebogile Lebitsa (Asambe), redefining local enterprise; Onnica Toko (MT Biofuels), tackling energy sustainability; Mashele (Lemon Belly Buster), revolutionizing nutrition and wellness; Lebogang Tebeila (Loggy Connect), digitizing logistics; Mary Maphosa (Kidunia Organics), promoting sustainable beauty; Lebo Mayana (MyCircle), reimagining community-driven commerce; Okhule Bahldi (Nhanha Engineering), advancing green engineering; Jacqueline Hamese (Lehumolago), innovating in social enterprise; Benjamin Tshefu (Bang Capital), enabling inclusive finance; Luc Okalobe (Yamify), building digital engagement ecosystems; Thabo Sibusiso (Claimly), streamlining insurance solutions and Theodore Chartier (Crab A Ride), transforming mobility.

Together, they represent not just businesses but bold statements of intent, a generation of entrepreneurs crafting local solutions with global potential.

Women at the Forefront of Change

This fourth cohort is a particularly transformative edition, 75% of the ventures are founded, co-founded or led by women. In a region where female entrepreneurs often face systemic barriers, their leadership signals a turning point in the evolution of inclusive entrepreneurship. Innovest Afrika’s focus on gender empowerment is both strategic and symbolic, underscoring that Africa’s economic future is increasingly being built by women who dare to create.

Beyond Acceleration: Building Ecosystems

Over the next few weeks, participants will undergo intensive mentorship, hands-on business training, and investor readiness sessions designed to help them scale beyond survival and into sustainability. The accelerator’s model blends technical support with market access, helping founders navigate capital gaps and operational challenges that often stifle early-stage ventures.

This process will culminate on November 19, 2025, in Johannesburg, where founders will pitch their ventures during the Innovest Investment Summit and Demo Day a platform where ideas meet opportunity and innovation meets capital.

South Africa’s entrepreneurial scene has long been a barometer for Africa’s economic innovation. From fintech solutions that bridge financial inclusion to renewable energy startups tackling climate resilience, this year’s Ignite cohort captures the diversity and depth of Africa’s innovation frontier.

Beyond funding and mentorship, Innovest Afrika’s initiative represents something more profound: a shift in narrative. It celebrates African entrepreneurs not as risk-takers in a fragile ecosystem, but as architects of an inclusive, digital and sustainable future.

A Movement, Not Just a Program

Each entrepreneur in the cohort carries a story of persistence and purpose that mirrors the broader African journey of rebuilding, redefining and reimagining possibility. Their collective ambition forms part of a continent-wide movement to position Africa not only as a consumer of innovation, but as its creator.

As Innovest Afrika’s Cohort 4 takes flight, one truth becomes clear: the future of African business is already underway, powered by entrepreneurs who believe that progress begins with purpose.
