Ghanaian fintech startup Seevcash has raised US$333,000 through the Stellar Community Fund (SCF) and affiliated programmes, funding that will support its efforts to make cross-border money transfers easier and more useful for African diaspora communities.

The remittance and peer-to-peer money transfer platform serves users across Ghana, the United States and other markets, helping families send and request money across borders. The new funding is expected to help Seevcash expand its reach and encourage more members of the diaspora to use the platform regularly.

Funding supports Seevcash’s growth

The US$333,000 was secured through four separate awards, including two Community Fund grants and two ecosystem growth programmes. The SCF is an open application awards programme operated by the Stellar Development Foundation, with community input helping support startups and developers building on the Stellar network.

Dawuda Iddrissu, CEO and co-founder of Seevcash, said the funding had played an important role at different stages of the company’s development.

“Every award from the Stellar Community Fund has come at a moment when we needed it most,” Iddrissu said. “It has let us move faster on the roadmap without slowing down on what matters, getting more of the diaspora using Seevcash and using it often.”

The funding comes as Seevcash expands its offering beyond money transfers with the launch of a new Visa card.

New Visa card expands how users access funds

The Seevcash Visa card allows users to spend their funds online and in person anywhere Visa is accepted, giving customers greater flexibility after receiving or holding money on the platform.

Cosmos Appiah, chief technology officer of Seevcash, said the card was introduced after users repeatedly asked for a way to use their funds directly.

“We fixed the sending. Then our users kept asking us the same question: where’s the card? Partnering with Visa is our answer,” Appiah said.

The card also builds on Seevcash’s existing partnership with MoneyGram, which strengthens the movement of funds into the platform.

Together, the new funding, Visa card and MoneyGram partnership position Seevcash to provide a broader range of financial services while making cross-border transactions more convenient for African diaspora communities.
