The recognition of FROMGREEN Rwanda at The Restoration Factory Program brings renewed attention to the role of sustainability-focused enterprises in shaping resilient economies. With a model rooted in agroforestry and community empowerment, the organisation continues to drive change by improving food security and creating income opportunities for vulnerable families. Winning Best Socio-Environmental Impact Project and receiving 2,500 USD for scale-up efforts marks an important chapter in its growth. For Founder and Chief Executive Officer Immaculee Namahirwe, this moment highlights the strength of her vision and the dedication behind her journey in advancing climate-smart development.
A Program That Strengthens Purpose and Expands Community Impact
Immaculee joined The Restoration Factory Program at a time when she was balancing several demanding responsibilities. She said, “I joined the Restoration Factory Program at a time when I was also attending the Swiss Africa Business Case Challenge at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, preparing for my Capstone defense at The African Leadership University and managing long overlapping sessions between programs.” She explained that the pressure pushed her to the edge and that protecting her mental health felt necessary.
She shared that resilience and support helped her stay focused. She said her mentor, Raphael Koomson, “stood by me every week even during evenings and weekends reminding me that growth is born from persistence.” She also expressed her gratitude to the organisers, saying, “The organisers, Marie Christelle Igihozo, Patrick Cyusa and Roger Karangwa also created an environment where young innovators felt supported and valued.”
The program helped her strengthen her purpose. She said, “The program opened my mind. It strengthened my purpose of empowering marginalized communities through climate smart agroforestry.”
FROMGREEN Rwanda began in 2024 with a simple act of hope. Immaculee said, “In 2024 when FROMGREEN Rwanda was established it began with a simple act of hope: donating 100 grafted avocado trees to single mothers in Nyange Sector who faced poverty and malnutrition in their infants due to lack of access to fruit trees.” She said that this purpose still guides the organisation today.
The Restoration Factory Program was designed to help early-stage entrepreneurs build strong business models and validate their ideas. Using a step-by-step and interactive approach, it encourages founders to speak to communities, ask difficult questions and confirm that their solutions address real needs. For Immaculee, this helped bring clarity to FROMGREEN Rwanda’s long-term vision.
Strengthening Communities Through Trees, Training and Climate Leadership
The milestone on November 14th 2025, when FROMGREEN Rwanda won the Best Socio-Environmental Impact Project award, was a moment of pride. Immaculee said, “Today I am proud to share that FROMGREEN Rwanda won Best Socio-Environmental Impact Project among the four finalists at The Restoration Factory Program in the pitching competition that happened on the Graduation Day.” The prize of 2,500 USD will support more community empowerment projects.
FROMGREEN Initiative works across food security, climate action, youth engagement and rural income generation. It is built on the belief that small agricultural actions can create meaningful long-term impact. By donating avocado trees to families in Musanze District and teaching youth how to manage tree nurseries, the organisation is planting seeds of both economic and environmental resilience.
Avocado trees offer families a reliable source of nutrition and an opportunity to earn income by selling surplus harvests in local markets. At the same time, they contribute to reforestation efforts and help reduce carbon emissions. The initiative plans to plant two million trees of various species by 2027, supported by strong youth engagement and training.
Immaculee shared the lessons she has learned. She said, “Focus on solving problems and profit will find you. Resilience turns challenges into milestones. Never give up because your purpose will carry you through.”
She also thanked partners who made the journey possible. She said, “A heartfelt thanks to UNEP-WCMC, Bridge for Billions, Circle Innovation, RICEM and World Agroforestry for powering this transformative program and believing in young African entrepreneurs like me.”
The Restoration Factory Program was built on the idea that restoration and business can grow together. It brings restoration experts and entrepreneurs together to create ventures that protect ecosystems while supporting economic growth.
A Future Built on Purpose and Community Strength
As FROMGREEN Rwanda looks forward, its mission remains focused on expanding climate-smart solutions and supporting vulnerable communities. Immaculee said, “This is just the beginning. At FROMGREEN Rwanda we will continue scaling sustainable impact, empowering women and youth and planting seeds of nutrition, income and climate resilience one avocado tree at a time.”
Her journey shows how purpose, discipline and community support can build real change. With The Restoration Factory and partners backing young entrepreneurs, Rwanda is seeing a new generation of climate-focused leaders ready to build a greener and more resilient future.
