GIZ Egypt, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in partnership with Plug and Play, has launched the Egypt Climate Invest Programme (ECIP), a 20-month initiative designed to connect climate tech startups with investors and accelerate Egypt’s green transition. The programme aims to bridge the gap between financial players and innovative entrepreneurs, providing the tools, networks and resources needed to scale climate solutions across Egypt. Applications are open to high-potential climate tech startups with operational traction in the Egyptian market.

Driving Investment and Innovation in Egypt’s Climate Tech Sector

The ECIP programme is a major step in Egypt’s efforts to foster sustainable economic growth and address climate challenges. Its core mission is to increase investment readiness among climate tech startups while building capacity and connecting these innovators with financial players. By creating a structured platform for knowledge sharing, mentorship and networking, ECIP aims to attract the capital needed to scale solutions that tackle environmental challenges, reduce emissions and enhance resource efficiency.

At the heart of the programme is the Climate Tech Startups Track, which provides tailored support to help top-tier startups become investment-ready. Selected startups will benefit from a six-month investment readiness programme that includes mentorship, strategic guidance and curated meetings with investors. This approach ensures that entrepreneurs are well-equipped to present their solutions, secure funding and achieve growth.

Participants will also have the chance to build networks and community connections. ECIP connects startups with industry stakeholders, experienced entrepreneurs and potential partners to create strategic alliances and identify investment opportunities. The programme emphasizes the importance of collaboration between innovators and investors to drive meaningful impact.

A key highlight of the programme is a prominent matchmaking event, where startups can showcase their innovations to investors, corporates and ecosystem players. This event provides participants with the opportunity to refine their pitch, gain exposure and attract funding for their climate solutions. By creating a platform for visibility and engagement, ECIP strengthens Egypt’s climate innovation ecosystem.

Who Should Apply and Why It Matters

ECIP is targeting visionary entrepreneurs and high-potential startups that are ready to grow and make a measurable impact on climate and sustainability. Eligible participants are expected to meet the following criteria:

  • Product Maturity & Business Stage: The startup should have a technically viable product that has been operating in the Egyptian market for 2–3 years.
  • Impact & Innovation: Solutions should demonstrate clear environmental and sustainability impact.
  • Traction & Validation: Startups must have a revenue model and financial projections showing potential for profitability.
  • Governance & Commitment: The founding team should be experienced, capable and committed to the mission.
  • Scalability: The business should have the potential to expand regionally or across different markets within Egypt.
  • Bonus Parameter: Innovations that can reduce emissions, improve resource efficiency or promote sustainability in key industrial sectors are particularly encouraged.

By targeting these high-potential startups, ECIP not only supports individual business growth but also fosters a broader ecosystem of climate-focused innovation in Egypt. The programme aligns with national and global climate goals, providing entrepreneurs with the resources and investor connections necessary to scale sustainable solutions.

Through ECIP, GIZ Egypt and its partners aim to strengthen the climate-tech ecosystem, accelerate green innovation and attract the investment needed to tackle pressing environmental challenges. By empowering startups to grow, the programme contributes to Egypt’s transition to a low-carbon economy, promotes environmental sustainability and encourages inclusive economic development.

Entrepreneurs who are ready to be part of Egypt’s climate-focused future are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this unique opportunity to gain mentorship, access investors and showcase their innovations on a national platform.
