Egypt secured five awards at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Global Finals in Shenzhen, China, including two Grand Prizes and a first-place finish in the Innovation track. The achievement reflects the growing quality of digital skills training and technology education across the country’s universities and reinforces Egypt’s position as an emerging hub for digital talent and innovation.
The strong performance by Egyptian students and educators comes as the country continues to invest in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and technology-driven economic growth. By earning recognition on one of the world’s largest ICT competition platforms, Egyptian participants have demonstrated the country’s ability to develop highly skilled professionals capable of competing on the global stage.
Overall, Egyptian teams secured five prestigious international awards, placing Egypt among only eight countries worldwide to receive Grand Prize recognition during the competition’s tenth edition.
The competition’s Cloud Track team, made up of Abdelrahman Adel Elbahrawy from Ain Shams University, Ahmed Mohamed Abd El Latief Talha from Beni Suef National University and Mohamed Salaheldin Abouelkhir from Mansoura University, won a Grand Prize for their performance in cloud technologies and practical problem-solving.
Another Grand Prize went to the Computing Track team, consisting of Mahmoud Ahmed Alameldin from King Salman International University, Ahmed Omar Nawara from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and Karim Gamal from Ain Shams University. The team was recognized for its advanced expertise in computing technologies.
Egypt also recorded success in the Innovation track, where students Ibram Anwar, Beshoy Magdy Botros and Ahmed El-Khouly from Misr University for Science and Technology earned First Prize for developing Manetho, an artificial intelligence-powered application that translates ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs in real time.
Meanwhile, the Network Track team of Rami Khalid Kamal El Din Moharam from Arab Open University, Kerolos Magdy Lotfy Habib from Assiut University and Mohamed Khaled Eid Youssef from the Future Higher Institute of Engineering in Fayoum secured Second Prize.
Building a Stronger Digital Talent Pipeline
The competition attracted more than 220,000 university students and faculty members from over 2,000 higher education institutions across more than 100 countries and regions. Following national and regional rounds, only 177 teams from 49 countries and regions advanced to the Global Final.
Against this highly competitive backdrop, Egypt’s results highlight the growing effectiveness of initiatives aimed at preparing young people for careers in technology and the digital economy.

Recognition Beyond the Competition
The competition also highlighted the important role educators play in developing future technology leaders. Dr. Mohamed Maher from the Faculty of Information Systems and Computer Science at October 6 University was recognized as a Most Valuable Instructor, becoming one of only 16 instructors globally to receive the award.
Eng. Asmaa Serag Eldin, Managing Director of Huawei ICT Academies in Egypt, said the achievements reflect the ambition and capabilities of Egypt’s next generation of technology professionals.

The significance of such initiatives was also highlighted by Dr. Shafika Isaacs, Acting Director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education and Chief of Section for Technology and AI in Education. She emphasized that preparing future generations for the artificial intelligence era requires collaboration between governments, academia, international organizations, and industry, and commended participants for applying emerging technologies to address real-world challenges.
Since its launch in 2015, the Huawei ICT Competition has become a major platform for talent development and industry-academia collaboration. The initiative has attracted more than 960,000 students from over 2,000 universities and colleges across more than 100 countries and regions.
