Flutterwave has announced a strategic investment from Circle Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Circle Internet Group, strengthening its efforts to improve cross-border payments for businesses across Africa through the expansion of stablecoin-based payment infrastructure.
The investment builds on Flutterwave’s participation in the launch of the Circle Payments Network in 2025 and forms part of the company’s broader strategy to make digital payments faster, more flexible and more efficient for businesses operating across African markets.
Flutterwave Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola, said the investment reflects a shared commitment to making stablecoins part of Africa’s financial infrastructure.
“Stablecoins are no longer an experiment. They are becoming the infrastructure that powers global money movement,” Agboola said, adding that the collaboration will allow businesses to collect payments locally, settle in USDC and move money globally with greater speed.
He said Africa has a unique opportunity not only to participate in the future of global finance but also to help shape it.
Expanding Payment Options for Businesses
For more than ten years, Flutterwave has built payment infrastructure that connects banks, cards, mobile money services and local payment systems through a single platform, making it easier for businesses to accept payments and make payouts across multiple African countries.
The latest investment introduces USDC settlement across the platform, allowing businesses to receive payments locally while settling in the regulated digital dollar where it suits their operations.
According to the company, businesses are increasingly looking for faster settlement times, lower transaction costs, greater transparency and improved access to digital dollar liquidity. Integrating USDC into its existing infrastructure is designed to meet these needs while keeping payment processes simple, compliant and reliable.
Flutterwave says businesses already using USDC will now have a direct gateway into African markets, while customers using RLUSD through its partnership with Ripple will continue to benefit from enterprise-grade settlement through the same infrastructure.
Building Africa’s Next Generation Payment Infrastructure
Flutterwave believes the future of payments will depend on multiple payment rails rather than a single payment system. Its strategy combines traditional banking, bank transfers, cards, mobile money, stablecoins and blockchain networks into one platform, giving businesses greater flexibility in how they move money across borders.
The company says different organisations have different settlement requirements, whether they are exporters, remittance companies, global marketplaces or multinational businesses. By supporting both RLUSD and trusted stablecoins such as USDC, Flutterwave aims to provide businesses with payment options that best suit their operations.
Over the past decade, Flutterwave has processed more than one billion transactions worth more than US$50 billion by connecting fragmented payment systems across Africa. The company says the next phase of growth will require infrastructure that gives African businesses quicker access to global liquidity while maintaining compliance and reliability.
Agboola said the latest investment represents another milestone in that journey and thanked the company’s customers, partners, investors, regulators and employees for their continued support.
“There is more to come,” he said, as Flutterwave continues its efforts to connect Africa more closely with the global financial system through modern payment infrastructure.
