In a landmark move underscoring Africa’s growing influence in global digital transformation, Cassava Technologies, a global technology group of African heritage, has announced a strategic investment from NVIDIA, the world leader in accelerated computing and artificial intelligence (AI).

The investment marks a pivotal milestone in Cassava’s mission to build Africa’s digital backbone an ambition that aligns with the continent’s accelerating shift toward AI-driven economies and digital inclusion.

“Securing this investment is an important milestone that will help unlock additional value and drive the expansion of our digital infrastructure and services to bridge the digital divide on the continent,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies.

A Signal of Confidence in African Innovation

The NVIDIA partnership places Cassava among a select group of African firms recognised by global technology giants for their potential to shape the future of connectivity, AI and cloud computing across emerging markets.

Cassava’s roster of investors now reads like a who’s who of global finance and development: Econet Group, Google, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Afreximbank/FEDA, British International Investment, Finnfund, Gateway Capital, Public Investment Corporation, and Royal Bafokeng Holdings with NVIDIA now joining the table.

This diversity of investors signals both growing confidence and strategic alignment around Africa’s digital future, particularly as the continent’s data consumption and cloud service demand continue to surge.

Building the Foundations of Africa’s Digital Economy

Operating across Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, Cassava Technologies has developed an expansive portfolio that reflects its end-to-end digital ecosystem approach. Its core business units include:

  • Liquid Intelligent Technologies, one of Africa’s largest independent fibre networks and cloud connectivity providers;
  • Africa Data Centres, a rapidly expanding pan-African data centre operator;
  • Liquid C2, offering multi-cloud and cybersecurity services;
  • Cassava.ai, focused on artificial intelligence and digital solutions and
  • Sasai Fintech, a digital payments and mobile financial services platform.

Together, these entities form a cohesive architecture supporting Africa’s digital infrastructure spanning connectivity, cloud, cybersecurity, fintech and now AI innovation.

Pemhiwa emphasised that Cassava’s long-term vision is to create an integrated digital economy capable of transforming everyday life for millions across Africa. “This partnership,” he added, “positions us to harness NVIDIA’s AI technology and expertise to drive innovation that is both inclusive and scalable.”

The investment also reinforces NVIDIA’s strategic interest in Africa as an emerging frontier for artificial intelligence. The continent’s young population over 70% under the age of 30, presents a fertile environment for innovation, with AI increasingly being applied to local challenges in education, health, agriculture and climate resilience.

By combining Cassava’s local infrastructure footprint with NVIDIA’s advanced computing power, the partnership could enable a new wave of digital products and services that are both African-led and globally competitive.

Cassava’s latest milestone is more than a business transaction, it’s a signpost for Africa’s digital renaissance. The collaboration with NVIDIA not only strengthens Cassava’s market position but also amplifies the continent’s voice in the global technology ecosystem.

With investments like this, Africa is no longer a passive participant in the digital age it is building the future from within.
