AXA has announced a major step in its Egypt operations by bringing all its local entities under one unified governance model known as ONE AXA. The move is designed to strengthen leadership, improve coordination across businesses and expand access to insurance, healthcare and financial protection for millions of Egyptians.
The consolidation brings together AXA Egypt, OneHealth and SAWA under one leadership structure. AXA Egypt has been operating in the country since 2015 with a strong presence in insurance. OneHealth delivers more than one million healthcare consultations each year, while SAWA is a joint venture with Egypt Post for Investment that launched Egypt’s first inclusive insurance company.
By unifying these platforms, AXA aims to deliver a more consistent customer experience, improve operational efficiency and accelerate its contribution to protection, health and financial inclusion across the country. The move also reflects AXA’s long-term commitment to Egypt as a strategic market in Africa.
Strengthening Governance and Leadership for Long-Term Growth
As part of this transition, Minoush Abdelmeguid has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of AXA Egypt. She will lead all three entities AXA Egypt, OneHealth and SAWA and will report directly to Nuria Fernandez, CEO of AXA Africa and Türkiye.
This leadership structure is intended to support stronger decision-making and closer collaboration across the Group’s businesses. It also positions AXA to respond more effectively to customer needs in a market where demand for insurance and healthcare services continues to grow.
Omar Shelbaya, the current CEO of AXA Egypt, will leave the Group to pursue new opportunities. He played a key role in building AXA’s presence in the local market and guiding the company through important growth phases. AXA acknowledged his contribution as part of the transition.
Dr. Michael Youssef, CEO of OneHealth, who also oversees operations in Nigeria, will join the AXA Egypt Executive Committee. His inclusion is expected to strengthen alignment between health services and insurance offerings, especially as healthcare becomes a central part of AXA’s value proposition in Egypt.
Hassan El-Shabrawishi, Chairman of AXA Egypt and CEO of AXA International Markets, said:
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Omar Shelbaya for his dedication and leadership, which have been instrumental as we advance our ONE AXA journey in Egypt today. Ten years into AXA’s entrepreneurial journey in Egypt, we are proud to reinforce our commitment and strengthen our governance to accelerate protection, health and financial inclusion for Egyptians. With Minoush’s leadership, we will bring together the power of our 3 endeavors, AXA Egypt, OneHealth and SAWA, to deliver a more secure, healthier and inclusive future for Egypt, with protection and innovation at the core of our growth.”
Driving Inclusion, Protection and a Unified Customer Experience
Minoush Abdelmeguid brings more than 25 years of experience across banking, FMCG and the automotive sector. She has held senior roles at Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority and has led multiple business transformations across regulated industries.
She joined AXA in July 2025 to lead SAWA, where she focused on inclusive insurance and expanding access to protection for underserved communities. In her new role, she will focus on creating a cohesive AXA experience across all platforms, strengthening customer protection and delivering sustainable impact at scale.
Working closely with the leadership teams of AXA Egypt, OneHealth and SAWA, she will guide the next phase of growth for the Group. This includes aligning operations with AXA’s ambition to double its business in Egypt by 2030.
The unified governance model is expected to improve how AXA designs products, delivers services and engages with customers. By combining insurance, healthcare and inclusive financial solutions, AXA aims to meet people’s needs more holistically, from health consultations to long-term financial protection.
AXA Egypt currently serves more than two million clients and employs over 900 people. Its portfolio includes general insurance, life insurance, protection and investment products, health insurance plans and microinsurance. The company has positioned itself as an active and responsible insurer, with a focus on solidarity and protection for all segments of society.
The ONE AXA model marks a new chapter for the Group in Egypt. By strengthening governance and leadership while keeping a clear focus on inclusion and impact, AXA is positioning itself to play a larger role in supporting economic resilience and social protection in the country over the coming decade.
