Building successful startups requires more than innovative ideas. It also depends on access to experienced mentors, strategic partners and investors that can help businesses grow. That is the role the Plug and Play Cairo Program aims to play as it opens applications for its eighth cohort, bringing together Egypt’s most promising startups for a three-month accelerator designed to strengthen innovation and support the country’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The fee-free and equity-free program is delivered in partnership with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), making it the first global accelerator established in Egypt. Hosted at the CREATIVA Innovation Hub at Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace, the initiative targets founders developing AI-enabled solutions across different industries, providing them with the resources and networks needed to transform promising ideas into scalable businesses.

Over three months, selected startups will gain access to mentorship, corporate partnerships, investor matchmaking and practical business support that can help refine their products, strengthen operations and prepare for long-term growth.

Supporting Startup Growth Through Practical Business Development

Plug and Play Cairo builds on Egypt’s expanding technology ecosystem by providing startups with the tools needed to move from early development to commercial success. Rather than focusing only on funding, the accelerator offers founders structured support that helps them strengthen their businesses across multiple areas.

Participating startups will attend practical workshops covering financial management, product development, commercialisation and corporate governance. They will also receive mentorship from experienced industry leaders and specialists who can help founders address operational challenges, improve their business models and prepare for sustainable growth.

The program also creates opportunities for startups to connect with regional and international venture capital firms and investors. These connections can open doors to future investment, allowing businesses to expand operations, develop new products and enter additional markets.

Another key element of the accelerator is its emphasis on collaboration. Founders will engage with business units from leading corporations and program partners to explore proof-of-concept projects, strategic partnerships and long-term commercial relationships that support business expansion.

Participants will also have access to office space at the Sultan Hussein Kamel CREATIVA Innovation Hub, together with technology benefits from providers including AWS, HubSpot and other digital service partners, giving startups additional resources to accelerate their development.

Two Tracks Tailored to Different Stages of Growth

The Cairo Program offers two specialised tracks that recognise the different needs of startups at various stages of development.

The MVP Track is aimed at early-stage companies that have developed a minimum viable product and achieved initial market validation. It is designed to help founders refine their products, validate their value proposition and achieve product-market fit. Startups are expected to have committed full-time founders, while previous funding is not a requirement, although a friends, family and founders (FFF) round is preferred.

The Revenue Generating Track is intended for startups that already have products in the market and are generating revenue or demonstrating clear traction. The track focuses on helping businesses strengthen their market position, scale operations and achieve sustainable growth. Companies are not required to have raised funding previously, although startups that have completed an FFF or pre-seed round are encouraged to apply.

As the first global accelerator established in Egypt, Plug and Play Cairo continues to position the country as a growing centre for innovation-driven entrepreneurship across the Middle East and Africa. By connecting startups with experienced mentors, corporate partners, investors and public institutions, the initiative is helping founders build stronger businesses while contributing to economic growth, job creation and the development of Egypt’s innovation ecosystem.

Applications for Cohort 8 remain open until August 30. Startup Selection Days are scheduled for September 2026, followed by the official launch of the program in October. The three-month accelerator will conclude in February 2027, marking another chapter in Plug and Play Cairo’s efforts to support the next generation of high-growth startups.
