In Tunisia, where tradition and innovation often intersect, Ahmed Choucheni has built a career that reflects both. His path began with discipline and resilience shaped by his education and professional experiences and it evolved into a vision that would change how people access healthcare and assistance. For more than a decade he worked in the healthcare and assistance sector, observing its gaps and limitations. Out of these observations came Help Group, a company designed to integrate medical expertise, technology and service delivery in ways that give individuals, companies and insurers peace of mind. Today, Help Group stands as one of Tunisia’s pioneering operators in assistance and healthcare management, a testament to Ahmed’s ability to merge ambition with social purpose.
“I was born and raised in Tunisia, a country that gave me both my roots and the determination to build solutions for people’s everyday challenges. My educational path shaped my entrepreneurial spirit, teaching me the importance of discipline, resilience and forward-thinking. With over a decade of experience in healthcare and assistance, I wanted to create a structure that combined medical expertise with innovative service delivery, this vision gave birth to Help Group.”
The inspiration behind Help Group came from what Ahmed witnessed on the ground. “The inspiration behind Help Group came from seeing families, insurers and companies struggle with fragmented, slow and often stressful healthcare and assistance processes. I believed there was an opportunity to create a new model, one that would integrate healthcare, assistance and technology to provide peace of mind every day and in emergencies.”
Building a New Standard
From its earliest days, Help Group sought to address a need that had gone unmet for too long. It became the first operator in Tunisia to provide assistance, third-party administration and delegated health management, positioning itself as more than an emergency responder. Ahmed describes the company as a medical assistance provider designed to fill a gap in the services industry, with the goal of delivering professional care in remote sites, wherever projects or worksites may be located.
The company soon expanded into comprehensive emergency medical services. This included the establishment and operation of ambulances, mobile medical facilities, paramedic units, training programs, evacuation support and even the rental of specialized equipment. At its core, Help Group focused on deploying medics, nurses, physiotherapists and doctors to remote exploration or construction sites. These professionals were supported by fleets of fully equipped ambulances capable of responding to emergencies with speed and reliability.
What began as a vision to improve fragmented healthcare systems evolved into an enterprise that set new benchmarks in Tunisia. Yet Ahmed has always emphasized that the growth of Help Group was not just about scale but about redefining the standard of service. “When I started, assistance was viewed mainly as emergency support. Today, it is much broader, covering everyday health services, digital TPA, telemedicine, mobility, concierge and travel assistance. The market has become more competitive and technology-driven. At Help Group, we stay ahead by integrating digital platforms like e-TPA and telemedicine, while keeping human empathy at the center of everything we do. This balance between innovation and proximity is what defines our strategy.”
Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Milestones
Success never came without obstacles. Ahmed recalls the uphill battle of proving that a Tunisian company could compete with international service providers in such a highly regulated and demanding sector. “One of the biggest challenges was to establish Help Group as a trusted national operator in a highly regulated and demanding sector. We had to prove that a Tunisian company could meet and even exceed international service standards.”
Scaling operations presented another test. “Another challenge was scaling operations while maintaining the same level of proximity and personalization for each client. These experiences taught me that success requires persistence, strong partnerships and continuous innovation.”
Despite these hurdles, Help Group built an exceptional network of healthcare professionals and forged partnerships with international companies. Among its achievements, Ahmed highlights the launch of HelloConsult, one of the first telemedicine platforms in Tunisia, which improved access to medical consultations across the country. The company also created WeCover, a digital claims platform that streamlined and automated health claims for insurers and members. In addition, Help Group expanded into on-site medical services by delivering complete healthcare packages to oil and gas companies in remote areas, developed travel-for-treatment solutions that positioned Tunisia as a destination for cost-effective, high-quality medical care and introduced concierge and mobility services that addressed lifestyle and business needs beyond healthcare.
Each of these milestones reflects a clear pattern: using technology and innovation not only to modernize healthcare delivery but also to make it more accessible and patient-centered.
Leadership, Lessons and the Road Ahead
Ahmed’s work extends beyond his role as an entrepreneur. He is committed to mentoring young innovators in Tunisia and actively supports initiatives that encourage healthcare advancement across Africa. “Besides my role at Help Group, I am committed to mentoring young entrepreneurs in Tunisia and supporting initiatives that promote healthcare innovation across Africa. I strongly believe that Africa’s entrepreneurial energy is key to sustainable economic development and I try to contribute through knowledge sharing and partnerships.”
His advice to those starting out is grounded in experience. “Focus on solving one problem better than anyone else. Don’t try to do everything at once, instead, build credibility and trust step by step. Use partnerships and technology as force multipliers. Above all, remain resilient and adaptable, because challenges will always be part of the journey.”
Looking ahead, Ahmed sees Tunisia rising as a regional hub for international-standard medical care. “Several trends excite me. First, the rise of digital health platforms, AI-driven claims processing and integrated global assistance networks. Second, Tunisia is increasingly positioning itself as a hub for international-standard medical facilities. Many African patients are looking to Tunisia for treatment, where they can find high-quality care at lower cost.”
Help Group is already moving to capture that potential. “At Help Group, we want to develop this potential through structured partnerships with national social security funds, ministries of health and other organizations across Africa. The goal is to build fully digitalized patient-care pathways, making cross-border healthcare simpler, more transparent and more affordable.”
Through it all, Ahmed holds onto one principle above all. “The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that business is about people. Technology and strategy are essential but at the core, it’s about earning and keeping trust. Whether it’s an emergency call at midnight or a corporate partner needing reassurance, our role is to provide peace of mind. That belief guides my leadership and shapes every service we design at Help Group.”
A Story Still Being Written
Ahmed Choucheni’s journey embodies what it means to turn vision into impact. He began with a determination to solve problems close to home and in the process, he built a company that has redefined healthcare and assistance in Tunisia. His story is also a reflection of Tunisia’s own potential, showing how local expertise can compete at international standards and create models that inspire across Africa.
The story, however, is not finished. Ahmed continues to expand Help Group’s reach, push innovation in healthcare delivery and support the growth of other entrepreneurs. His compass remains steady, people first, always and his journey continues to unfold as a living example of resilience, leadership and the pursuit of excellence.
