AfriLabs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Algerian Ecosystem Network (EYCONET) to improve investment opportunities for high-growth startups in Algeria and, over time, across North Africa. The partnership is expected to give promising startups greater access to investors, business partners, new markets and other opportunities that can support their growth.
The agreement brings together EYCONET’s local knowledge and startup sourcing capabilities with AfriLabs’ continental network, digital infrastructure and investor connections. At the centre of the collaboration is the AfriLabs Connect Deal Room (ACDR), a platform that supports structured deal sourcing, investment readiness and partnership development.
Connecting Algerian Startups to Wider Markets
Under the partnership, EYCONET will help identify, verify, qualify and validate high-growth startups from Algeria for inclusion in the ACDR pipeline. The process is intended to create a stronger pool of investment-ready businesses while giving selected startups greater visibility among pan-African and international investors.
The initiative could be particularly important for startups operating in areas such as DeepTech, where access to funding, corporate partnerships and international markets can play an important role in moving businesses from early development to commercial growth.
The partnership will also strengthen cooperation with business support organisations and other ecosystem stakeholders working to improve startup development and investment readiness across the region. By creating a more structured pipeline, the two organisations aim to improve the quality and credibility of startup opportunities presented to investors.
A major part of this work will involve validation and due diligence. These processes are expected to provide investors with greater confidence in the businesses entering the ACDR pipeline, while helping founders become better prepared to engage with potential investors and strategic partners.
Institutional Support for Startup Growth
The collaboration also creates opportunities for selected startups to participate in national and continental ecosystem platforms. With support from Algeria’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-Enterprises, startups in the ACDR pipeline may gain access to platforms such as the upcoming African Startup Conference.
EYCONET’s engagement with the Algerian Startup Fund (ASF) further strengthens the initiative, reflecting wider institutional support for the internationalisation of Algerian startups and the development of the country’s startup ecosystem.
For founders, the partnership could open new routes to funding, partnerships and market expansion beyond Algeria. It also gives investors, corporates, public institutions and ecosystem leaders a more organised way to identify promising businesses emerging from the Algerian and wider North African markets.
AfriLabs, which operates the largest pan-African network of innovation and technology hubs, supports entrepreneurs and innovation ecosystems through its community, programmes and digital platforms. EYCONET, an Algeria-based ecosystem network, focuses on entrepreneurship, startup development and innovation by connecting founders with public and private sector stakeholders and improving access to strategic opportunities.
By combining their networks and capabilities, AfriLabs and EYCONET aim to strengthen startup deal flow across North Africa and create more practical pathways for African businesses to secure investment, enter new markets and build strategic partnerships.
