Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH), the flagship philanthropic initiative of the Jack Ma Foundation in Africa, has announced its 2026 Top 100 entrepreneurs. Selected from thousands of applications across the continent, the finalists represent some of Africa’s most promising business builders who are creating solutions in agriculture, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, energy and other key sectors.

The announcement highlights the growing strength of African entrepreneurship and the role that innovative businesses are playing in creating jobs, improving lives and driving economic growth. Beyond recognition, the ABH program provides entrepreneurs with access to funding, training, mentorship and a wider support network that helps businesses scale their impact.

The 2026 Top 100 entrepreneurs come from 27 African countries, representing half of the continent. Thirteen percent of the entrepreneurs are from Francophone Africa, while women account for 33% of the selected founders. The average entrepreneur is 38 years old, and their businesses have been operating for an average of 6.5 years. Together, the Top 100 represent 16 different industries, reflecting the diversity and dynamism of Africa’s business landscape.

Creating Jobs, Revenue and Impact Across Africa

The businesses selected for the 2026 Top 100 are already making a significant contribution to African economies. Collectively, they have generated more than $170 million in revenue, employ over 6,200 people and serve more than 10 million customers.

Agriculture remains the most represented sector, accounting for 21% of the Top 100. Financial services follow at 12%, while healthcare and manufacturing each account for 10%. Energy businesses make up 9% of the list.

These figures underline the importance of entrepreneurship as a driver of economic development. The selected founders are not only building successful companies but are also creating employment opportunities, supporting local communities and helping address some of Africa’s biggest challenges.

Key Trends Shaping Africa’s Entrepreneurial Future

Several important trends emerged from the 2026 Top 100 selection.

Agritech continues to gain momentum, with 21 agriculture-focused businesses demonstrating how technology is transforming farming, food production and agricultural value chains. Rather than relying solely on traditional farming methods, many entrepreneurs are using technology and innovation to improve productivity and create new market opportunities.

Financial technology remains another major growth area. The selected fintech entrepreneurs are using alternative data and artificial intelligence to expand access to credit and financial services for underserved businesses and communities.

Environmental sustainability is also becoming a stronger focus. Recycling and environmental ventures are moving beyond waste collection and management into higher-value circular economy models that combine commercial success with environmental impact.

Manufacturing businesses from nine countries featured in the Top 100, reflecting a broader shift toward decentralized industrial growth across Africa. Meanwhile, nearly one-third of the selected businesses are applying artificial intelligence to solve practical, sector-specific challenges, showing that AI adoption is increasingly moving from experimentation to real-world implementation.
